Walk Together Children
is a vastly underappreciated spiritual. I am amazed at the lack of arrangements
of this song, as its wonderfully expressive melody and harmonies express such a
clear and wonderful message of unity. My setting starts out rubato, moves
into a sweet little shuffle rhythm supported by the basses (it almost sounds
like "The Fairfield Four" for awhile) and then finishes strongly.
Complete perusal score available upon request.
TEXT
Walk together children, don't you get a-weary,
Walk together children, don't you get a-weary,
Talk together children, there's a great camp meetin' in de
Promis'd Land.
Sing together children, don’t you get a-weary
Sing together children, don’t you get a-weary
Shout together children, there's a great camp meetin' in de
Promis'd Land
Gonna moan, gonna moan,
gonna moan an' never tire,
there's a great camp meet-in' in de Promis'd Land.
