This is a fairly obscure spiritual -- I think
there are only one or two other choral settings of it. I have set it in such a
way as to suggest the steady walking, and the tempo, the style of singing, and
some subtle body percussion help get that across. If you look at the text, the
image of “walking down de lane” is akin to going to Heaven, since the reference
to Jesus talks about “three long nights and three long days”, an obvious
reference to the time from Good Friday to Easter Sunday.
